Johnny Deacon is a minor character in the Jem animated series. He is the lead singer and guitarist for the band that bears his own name. He was one of the guest music celebrities invited to perform at the "Jem Jam".

He was voiced by Townsend Coleman.

History[]

Johnny Deacon was one of the music artists invited to perform at the "Jem Jam", a music festival Starlight Music organized for charity. While the preparations for the concert were getting ready, he, among the rest of the other guest celebrities, stayed at Starlight Mansion for a few days, accompanied by his drummer and good sidekick, Randy James (who Ba Nee thought was her father).

"The King of Rock and Roll", as Jem introduced him to the public in the Jem Jam reception, is a very polite and positive man, always wearing a smile on his face. However, if the occasion demands it, he'll not be afraid of getting into a fight to get rid of any troublemakers. He's also very brave and will even go to the extreme of putting himself in danger to help anyone who needs it.

Besides playing in his own band, he also knows how to pilot a helicopter and is a bit learned in the way audio systems work.

During the Jem Jam episodes, he develops an instant attraction toward Jem and behaves specially sweet when she's around, trying a few times to find a moment to be alone with her.

Discography[]

The only known album by Johnny Deacon, titled simply 101, appears as part of a montage for the song "Gettin' Down To Business" in the episode The Bands Break Up.

Trivia[]

  • John Deacon is the name of a real life musician - the former bassist for the rock band Queen.
  • The physical appearance of the Jem character, on the other hand, is based on real life rock legend, Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen, whose album Born in the U.S.A. has sold over 30 million copies since its initial release in 1984.
  • In The Bands Break Up, Johnny's album, 101, appears in a music montage, where his name is misspelled as "Johny"; however, his name can be seen properly written in a poster in the episode The Jem Jam (Part 1).
